OT (REAL, not a joke): Message to E.T.

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by italy74, Aug 13, 2009.

  1. Hi guys
have you ever dreamed to leave a sms for E.T.?
Here you can do that, but hurry, on Aug 23th all messages on this australian website will be collected, sent to US for encoding and then back to Australia to be sent in space via radiotelescope.
Pay attention when you set your homeland in the fields... I discovered that Genova (Genoa) now is in Australia...

I thought it's a nice thing to share.
To see your message posted among the others, calculate around 12 pages from when you start writing (I started when 116 was displayed and found at 129) but also keep in mind that since "Le Monde" published that news, the number of messages increased remarkably within the last hours.
  2. Um, I doubt that we would ever get anything back from these messages in many lifetimes. If they are listening, they already know we are here.
  3. I wonder how many years it will take for these messages to make it to that planet in the first place, if they ever did.
  4. They say 20 years to go and at least 20 to go back.. (at light-speed) of course if they reply immediately !!!
  5. Can they understand English?
  6. Well, it's all decodified in binary code... English come later...
  7. HA is this serious?
This is a joke, even if there is life, they actually expect to EVER get anything back.

see what happens when you take drugs.
  9. It should be said (and I agree) by Carl Sagan that he was almost certain that in all of the billions of galaxies and billions of solar systems in all of those galxies that life exists.
But it should also be said that the distances involved are outrageous. There is a slim to no chance that we will ever make any contact with them. Even if you could defy the theory of relativity, and fly at the speeds of the starship Enterprise, it would take hundreds of years to travel there.
For all we know life somewhere else has the ability to collect our radio and television signals already. They may be able to catch our early radio broadcasts in another three or four hundred years.
  10. unless the radio broadcasts hit a worm hole!

If there is another planet out there with life, i dont want them to come here. What if their photographer guys come over with wowie zowie pics of a strange world? We would be hard pressed to beat that kind of "original" shot.

    no thank you.

  12. Well, I am definitely NOT one of the folks writing a message, but as the saying goes, you never know unless you try. I don't ever expect anything to come of this, but you never know....
  13. I'm sure as hell not either. personally id forget it about it in 10 years, let alone 40. . .

  15. Cool Idea. I got my name and the kids on a couple chips of some sort that are traveling through space and one that impacted an asteroid. Just kinda fun knowing it's out there and a duplicate in the Smithsonian.
