I'm unsure how it happened, as with most things these days.

Her who must be obeyed agreed to let me purchase the wonderful all singing all dancing 70 -200 VR thingy. All will undoubtedly be well until I decline her attempts to check the mastercard bill, bank statements and access to my piggy bank.

Wish me well, it could be a rocky road from here on in. It's a sure way to lose weight, buy lenses, then you can't afford food or beer.

There must be logic here somewhere. :p

Don't worry, the 70-200vr will be worth it, even if you have to sleep on the couch for a few weeks. :)

I can almost gurantee that once she sees the pictures from the 70-200VR that all else will be forgotten. Atleast that is how it worked out in my case :)
  4. Just don't give up Beer-food maybe.
  5. Hi Rob,

As implied by your message title, you could tell "her who must be obeyed" that by buying that 70-200 you have in fact saved a LOT of money that otherwise would have needed to be spent on Viagra prescriptions for your other lenses.

    Best wishes,

  6. Now that I think about it, buying this lens will save on beer. I will not handle the lens if I've had a few.

    Ya, that's the ticket.

After all this effort it appears that there are no stocks of the 70-200 in the UK, at least online. It's now 4 weeks since they had any, and now have a projected 6 week wait. What's the story in George's Land?
There was an unsubtle hint from one seller that a new series of lenses is in the pipeline for Crimbo.

At least the nagging machine got a chuckle at my expense.

I'd be very surprised if the 70-200vr is getting replaced anytime soon; there are plenty of other lenses in their lineup more in need of a refresh. Then again Nikon isn't always known for doing what makes the most sense...
  9. This is a great lens Rob and your wife might even appreciate the smooth lines and gold lettering. If not that the pictures will surely wow her. Good luck.
  10. Maybe a new faster AFS, maybe f/2, maybe better VR, maybe Super ED, maybe better wide-open performance, maybe DX....maybe....AARGH!
Think about all the iterations we have left to go! There were no less than 5, maybe 6 versions of the 80-200 in the first 20 years or so....
