Pacific Loon taking off

    With the exception of red-throated loons (the smallest species) all loons require a water "runway" to become airborne. This is a Pacific loon taking off.

    Interesting info, Steve, and good use of low shutterspeed to get across action and speed. Looks like a skipping stone shot of a Pacific loon. :biggrin:

    I should have mentioned, these guys nest on the pond which is in front of our house. I leave a camera on the porch just to try to catch one when it is taking off or landing, or to try to get a photo of predation of a loon chick by an eagle. This was shot with a 600+TC-14.
