Pano lens help

I'm preparing for a Utah trip in the fall and have found a ZF 35mm f2 and a Nikon AIS 105 f3.5 and both are cuttingly sharp on my D3. Now I'm looking for something middle ground. I have a AF 50mm f1.4 but there are no "depth of focus" markers on the lens barrel. What lens would the pano-shootists choose to fill the coverage gap? I am looking at 55 f2.8 micro right now, but since it is optimized for micro could it be dual-used as a "nearly infinity" lens? centers of most lenses will be sharp but also looking for side vertical/corner sharpness as well?
TIA,
Nick

Nick, Although a different body, I use the 17-55mm f/2.8 on my D300 for panos and love it! I too would like to hear responses to your D3 question.
