Photos with a Tokina manual focus 400mm f/8 reflex lens

Test photos with a Tokina manual focus 400mm f/8 reflex lens. (also called a mirror lens). In my garden on 13 July 2021. Nikon Z7 II, SB900 flash with Harbor Digital flash extender and a Fotopro gimbal head used L bracket mode.

Those are very nice apart from the butterfly, which has an ugly out of focus background. That is my opinion of course. I find these lenses produce a too busy background, which you avoided in the first four photos. I imagine this lens would be good for birds in flight against the sky, assuming enough light of course. Interesting to see the bee close up.

These look impressively sharp and detailed for a reflex lens. I'm impressed!

Also, congrats on your manual focus skills.
