Photovan does wet weather ![ and hot water beach]

Today I started my journey to the East coast of the North island [ New Zealand ] . The weather is miserable but I'm on leave so I'm going to enjoy it

I had intended staying at Mount Maunganui but all the people there gave me claustrophobia so I headed north and was going to Bowentown but took a [good] wrong turn and ended up at the Athenree hot pools and campsite where I am now [ in the kitchen mind you ] .

This is the best I could do in the conditions between rain showers and a dip in the hot pools ....

And hopefully this short amateurish video clip taken on the D90 gives an idea of what the weather is like here . It starts off looking across at Bownetown and ends up looking at the camping grounds ..

Sunday morning and the weather is still awful - supposedly clearing up by Tuesday .
I'll do some more touring today and if I get home by Monday I may start preparing for a trip into the snow .

Most of the weather is still here but I had a 'window' of sunshine for my walk down to Cathedral cove .
I'm going to post a bunch of pictures and add most of the text later - wirless internet is costing me $10 an hour at this campsite at hot water beach !

Fuel stop - I spoke to the owner of that other van , he's in the country for 6 months and has done a tacky mod on the inside of his van - nowhere near as 'professional' as the photovan
