Called the local Ritz and they had one in stock. Want to see if it can fit in as a backup and to dabble in HD video a little. Driving home I ran into this guy crossing the road near my house.

Might get one when my Tax return gets in :)... Or a D5000/3100 depending on the happenings with announcements and stuff :).

D3100/5x00 + Sigma 30 1.4 would be a nice "small" combination for travel and keeping it in my car/backpack/workplace :).

Dave,

Congrats!

I am thinking of picking up a D5100 as well (I see you use D700 for the heavy lifting like me) to use as a lightweight travel camera. Thinking of pairing it with the 16~85VR plus the 70~300VR I already have, in the TT Retro 10 that I also have (one of 10 camera bags  ) The movie and scenics stuff interests me not: just the IQ and small size and weight.

Hmmmmm... I was more thinking of a couple of primes, 30 1.4 would be enough for most situations... except for the "extreme" wide and the longer portraits... most things should work :)

Thanks, probably what I will use it for too. I have the kit lens(18-55 VR), the 24-120 f/4 G VR, sigma 85 1.4, 70-700 2.8 VR1 that I can use with it. It seems to match up well with the Sigma 85 wide open @ 1.4!

The D5100 and the 35 f/1.8 work well together! @ f/2

Dave, that's a great shot.

I got to thinking...if you wanted to use mostly primes with the D5100 a good line-up would be:

35/1.8 DX
50/1.8G (the new one)
85/3.5 DX VR macro

and for a wide angle...? what? No w/a prime that works with the D5100 The only current viable choices are zooms

(a) Nikon 12~24/4 DX
(b) Tokina 12~24/4 DX-II (with the BIM)

Let's hope Nikon issues a 15mm/f3.5 or so prime soon!
