Pileated Woodpecker

Discussion in 'Birds' started by kramp, Dec 26, 2005.

  1. A couple of through the window shots at 800 iso and one out in the forest.

This female has been coming into the yard but I haven't seen the male come to the feeder yet.

    And a crop.

    Now that is beautiful!!!!

    Thanks for sharing these.
  3. Great shots. Man, you had some light for it too. I was in corkscrew swamp with pileateds, but all backlit and bad light. I am so jealous....

Fabulous catch! I love this bird and it is WAY up there on my list to get a good photo of. Amazing quality you have achieved through a window!
must be a fair number of them in your area for them to be this bold.
  5. awesome that these came to your feeder, wow! Great shots!

Wo I rarely even see these.

Great looking woodpecker. Very big and unique.
  7. Thanks for the comments.

I have always been fascinated by these large woodpeckers and have waited years to get a decent picture. There is a pair that lives in the area and they do come into the yard once in a while, this summer I saw one of the parents feeding my Mason Bee larva to one babies just out of the nest, that was pretty cool, no camera ready and at the other end of the yard though.

  8. Nice shots Martin. Any opportunity with a Pileated is special. I would be interested to see a head crop from the first one.

Excellent shots Martin. I'd love to get a shot at one of these guys (or gals).
  14. Man between you and Tim with this species, gets pretty tough. LOL..............quite the impressive backyards. I think Rory and I should come check them out ;-)
  15. Road trip! Any time, beers in the fridge, should be something around here to shoot.

  16. Great shots Martin. Wish we had some birds down here like you have up there.
  17. Wow this guy is on the top of my list to capture
