Hello! I have been thinking about taking a vacation to Colorado. What would be the best area for wild life? Also keep in mind that I don't just want to spend my whole time there photographing wild life because my wife wants to be able to have some fun also. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Derek

  2. Derek,

Rocky Mtn. Nat'l Park is a good start for wildlife, esp. the big mammals, and great scenery/hiking for the Mrs. You'll find black bear, mountain goats, bighorn sheep, elk and mule deer. Wolves are long gone, very few moose in CO anymore. If you can go offseason or middle of the week that helps as well as far as tourist crowds go.

In the spring and fall, a large population of sandhill cranes migrate through from NM/Idaho and spend a few weeks in the San Luis Valley, and a similar number of snow geese also come through and spend some time near Lamar and La Junta.

Finding wildlife habitat in Colorado is becoming harder and harder, sadly enough.
