Now thats a collection of glassware ! I cant match that or come close. I have enough dillemas choosing amongst what I have.

The obvious lens type for certain jobs aside, how can you ever get out the door each day - are'nt you always wondering if you brought the right lens ?

When I noticed you've been acquiring some zooms lately I wondered if you still had your collection of primes. That's definitely an extensive list.

Do you intend to use all of these going forward? I understand having different lenses for different occasions. But for instance I can't really imagine wanting to use the 50 1.8 when you have the 50 1.4. And I know that once I got the 70-200vr I never even for a second considered using the 70-300 again (yes it's smaller but that's not really a concern for me).

I bet if you sold a few of those lenses you're never going to use on ebay you could buy some other new lens you're lusting after.... :biggrin: :biggrin: :biggrin:

I usually head out the door with an idea of what I want to shoot and load my pack accordingly. Some days its heavy(zooms), other days its very light(primes). Usually about 3 lenses at a time.

The 2 50's have different uses as well. The 1.4 is used if the light is really bad as it is better wide open to f4, while the 1.8 is better from 5.6 down so it gets used when the light is better. The 70-300ED was the first lens I bought and is no longer used, but I didn't think it was worth much so I never tried to sell it.

I can think of situations where every lens works best. At least I haven't lusted after the long glass yet. That gets expensive.

You might be surprised how much some of these lenses can get on ebay. I actually got $103 for my 50 1.8. Might not seem like much but I had a couple other consumer lenses and a few other odds and ends that I sold all at once, and it ended up being enough to pay for an 85 1.4.

Pro level zooms can match thier qualities but they still lack the character of a prime. There is something about a prime. I can't explain it.

I'm down the road in Parker, and you're welcome to send some of those on a vacation down at my place. I'm sure they get lost in the crowd, sort of like the middle kid.

You really need to get some heavy, long glass. A 600mm f/4 should slow you down for a while (I had that Sigma 50-500 once, and it's certainly heavy. I found it very awkward.)
