I had gone to the local camera store to get the Sigma 100-400 to do some birding photos. But when I got there, I found they had a use Leica Super Vario Elmar 11-23 in good conditions (looks new) for about $500 off of list price. Such a deal. I ended up going with it instead of the Sigma. Here are some shots from Goliad, the King Ranch and McAllen Texas. All were taken with the 11-23 and the 18-56 kit lens. Goliad was very interesting. I had a refresher on my Texas history. The King Ranch half day bird tour is well worth the money but not good for photography as it is in a 15 passenger van. We did see 54 different species. Many of which I had not seen before. The birding and the restaurants in The Valley were good too.

Loreto Chapel - Presidio La Bahia - Once of the oldest congregation in the United States. Only for a brief period following the Texas Revolution, was the church not active. It was here Colonel Fannin and his troops were held captive by the Mexican army. On March 27th, they were separated into 3 groups and massacred on General Santa Ana's orders.

Thanks for the tour! Looks like you've got a nice lens!
Thanks. I am loving this lens. Everything was handheld w/o stabilization.
I am looking forward to September. I want to go to the Chinati Foundation and photograph the artillery shed. It has over 100 aluminum boxes in it with the same dimensions but of different construction. The building has glass window walls running the length on both sides. It should make for some good shots.

I will also probably pick up the Sigma 100-400 for the trip too. I have developed some shoulder pains which has me re-evaluating the Nikon. Hopefully the pains improve where I can easily carry it again.
