This is a Roman aqueduct at Pondel near Aosta in the North of Italy. It dates from 3BC and was a private construction to carry water from the mountains down to the quarries in the valley.

You can walk through the bridge and see how the aqueduct was cleverly constructed to the minimise weight bearing down on the foundations.

The Tacoma Narrows Bridges (aka highway 16), with the Olympic Mountains in the background. The north bridge (on the right) has been around for decades, the south one (left) was finished a few years ago.
