Post your fireworks '08!

Nov 21, 2007
OK, I had a ton of fun with the fireworks tonight. Back to 'Kaboom' on the Navesink (Pronounced NAY VEH SINK, not NAH VA SINK, dont be a benny!) in RedBank/Middletown NJ. Wasnt even supposed to go, my family was all messed up with different trips we were taking this weekend and nobody was gonna be in Red Bank for fireworks, and my Dad rolled an ATV over his ankle so he never got his boat out, but at the last minute things came together and I wound up on the RedBank to Middletown Bridge.

Last year's best image is so far my most viewed picture in Flickr out of the thousands of trash I have posted I am most proud of this one:

And the whole set:

Tonight I took over 350 shots, varying the time on Bulb and wasnt sure I was gonna get many I like. I don't know if their is one as 'iconic' as my red white and blue shot from last year but I think on the whole I took better looking more interesting shots. Flipping through em in Lightroom I 'picked' 210 of 350, which is way too many of course, but I really do like a lot of em. I didnt have my 20D with the L lens either, I was using the consumer 18-200VR on my D300, and I really dont think the gear made all that much difference, but having a couple of years under my belt making mistake after mistake really did.

Here's the first batch:

And the two I like best so far are these ones:

The ones tonight were not that good. I got the best I could, my timing was off for most of the night to include the slow write speed of long exposures of the D70s.

These were shot with the camera propped up and supported on the car windshield with a dishrag. Dummy me, I took the tripod, but forgot the mounting plate in my other camera bag, so I had to improvise. Unfortunately there are power lines in the shots, but I couldn't do much about them, considering I was "handicapped". I like the reflection in the windshield in the last shot.

These were taken last night at the Firework show (Catonsville, MD)

Fireworks from last night - they did not turn out like I wanted. To begin with I left the battery for one of camera's at home, and I left the lens I was planning on shooting with at home. And finally I hosed the first 20 photos because I forgot to change my aperature.
Anyway I still had a great time and can say I learned from my mistakes.

These are some from the Columbus, NC Festival. This is my first time shooting fireworks. All shot with the D40 and 55-200 mm at ISO 200 and Aperature of f/9. Shutterspeeds from 1-5 sec. Used a tripod and remote.

And the finale...

I'm just 16 and I had some women and her younger (8-10) children standing right behind me while I was taking the pictures. I don't think that they watched the fireworks, just my LCD on the camera to see if I had got the shot. LOL

C and C welcome. Please!!!

this is sumthing i figured i would do just once....from 2006

5s, f11, 45mm, 200iso, tripod, remote...very boring, but cool results...;-)

My turn. Figured it's only once a year I get to shoot fireworks so I got my lazy butt out of the house. For being my first attempt at shooting fireworks I'm satisfied with the results...

Any input would be great.
