Featured Critique Prom: Claire & Joran

Discussion in 'Formal Portraits and Weddings' started by JakeEbersole, Apr 29, 2017.

  1. Some of you may have seen this article last month. Joran ran 5.5 miles just so he could invite his girlfriend to prom. I did some family pics for his extended family last year, and a few weeks ago his mom got ahold of me so I could do their prom pictures. The rain held off long enough to get a few pictures, but we were fighting about 20 other couples for good spots. Let me know what you think!

Cute kids! I think they should be very happy with these. I like the first as a photo but that one I'm not a fan of the processing.

I also think they are going to be very happy with these. I particularly like the fourth and the sixth image. Nice work, Jake!

Love the pictures, and I will concur PhotogWannabe's comment about the b&w photo. It doesn't necessarily need to be in color, but I'm just not digging that particular style of b&w. Photo number 4 is my favorite of the bunch.
  6. Thanks Lyndee!

    Thanks! I appreciate the feedback.

A very photogenic couple, with 6 & 7 my favorites. Perhaps it is just me, but both subjects appear to have been wearing ski goggles or sunglasses, causing the area around their eyes to be pale compared to their facial skin color.

  9. Nice series, altho several look a bit oversaturated.
  10. I'm loving that 105mm! Very nice!

My only advice if you're shooting raw, is to try turning the clarity slider a bit down. These modern lenses are so sharp they pick every little imperfection! With portraits I think critical sharpness isn't as important.

Man, now you got me thinking about the 105mm! Lol
  11. I'm so impressed not only of the photographer but these two lenses OOF rendition as well. I guess I "need" both these lenses now...

Great set. Love them. Agree with comments above on the B&W processing but love the colour processing.

I love the emotion you captured in all of them. She is so poised, he looks giddy (and I mean that in a good way!)
  17. I'm lovin' #4 and #6! I also love the bokeh in these images.
  18. My favorite is Number 5, closely followed by number 6.....

Excellent captures....the 105 certainly provides stunning bokeh and 3D pop.
  20. Thank you all!
