Purchasing Fonts: Reliable Sites Advice

Discussion in 'Retouching and Post Processing' started by Markb, Aug 6, 2008.

  1. I want to find the font that will match our team jersey, but I've never gone online to acquire a paid font (which I suspect I will have to do). I wonder if there are any suggestions from the members here.

Here is a picture of the jersey, I know it's some sort of serif script, with what I believe is called a swatch underneath it:

    original.

I've done some searching on the web, but quite frankly I am quite bewildered as to where I might be dealing with a reputable organization, or not.

    Thank you for your help.

    Mark,

Before you purchase a font, I would take a look at the following site:

    http://www.dafont.com/

I have found a number of great and unique fonts on this site for free.

    Good luck.

Answer some questions about the style of font, and it helps you identify the specific font/family as well as the foundry that made it.

  4. Randy, Sean,

Thanks, those sites are helping me.

  5. Cool site, but I tried the font identifier and it failed miserably! The two it suggested weren't even in the ballpark.

  6. Really! I've used it a couple of times when I couldn't figure out an embedded font in Flash, and it nailed it every time.

  7. Hey Sean - Here is a link to the font that I would like to identify. Let me know if you have any luck. Maybe it's just too obscure. But, the two suggestions were not only not close, but the two of them were completely different from each other.

  8. Strange question, but can you get in contact with the manufacturer of the shirt and ask them what font it is?

  9. Anthony,

You were looking for the font that's in the image of the feet, right?

  10. The closest font I can think of is called "Team Spirit" and it's free here: http://www.dafont.com/nicks-fonts.d83

  11. Not a strange question Phil. The coach doesn't know, but I have a call in to the supplier.

My search also identifed that in many cases, the script/font used is hand drawn, and not actually available as a font (this is the case with many Major League Baseball uniforms) so fonts duplicating the script can be described in any number of ways. In some cases, they may very well be using a mix of fonts.

Garrie and Anthony, I'll check out your suggestions as well.

FWIW, I'm happy to use free fonts, I want to make sure that I'm not stepping on copyright toes....

I don't know if they have that particular one, but I like FontDiner.com for some of my needs.

  13. Yes, that is correct. Sorry to piggyback on this thread.
