Please forgive me, because photoshop is new to me. With elements 9 do you
have to be connected to the internet for it to work? I just got it today & I am
in the learning phase right now. Bought a book The Missing Manual to help me
along. Any helpful information would be appreciated.

  2. No you do not need to be connected to use it. Only to register it during installation. Even that isnt required.

There is an automated update now for PSE as well and the help files are online as well. I guess you could say there is an assumption that you will be online, but as Iscariot says, you do not have to be connected to get it to work for editing. You would need to be online for some aspects of the tool to work obviously. They also have an automated backup offering (which is not too cool in mind because its limited space).
