The IR Forum is a gallery and I wasn't sure whether to post questions there, so this is as good a place as any, I guess...
I have a D80 which I'm considering converting to IR. The types of IR images that I'm interested in capturing are very similar to the ones shown in the first post in this thread: https://www.nikoncafe.com/vforums/showthread.php?t=254151. Basically landscapes with deep, rich blue skies. Now to my questions (in no particular order):
1. Many IR landscape images (including the ones in the thread I refer to above) look like winter scapes, but they were shot at other times of year. What do actual winter landscapes shot in IR look like? Can anyone provide any examples?
2. I've seen discussions about which lens is better for IR? What does the lens have to do with it? Based upon my lens collection (see my sig), which (if any) would work best with IR and why?
3. Lifepixel.com has been mentioned frequently as a place to send your camera for conversion to IR. On their "Sample Images" page, they list 4 different available IR filters. For the types of images I like, I think that the Enhanced Color IR would be right for me, but I'm not sure. Any thoughts on the different filters available?
4. There is also much discussion of swapping the red and blue channels in post to get that deep blue sky affect. I use PS Elements 5, NX2 and LR2 as my editing software collection and none have the ability to swap color channels. Would I need to get full-blown Photoshop to do this, or do later versions of PS Elements include that capability? Or is there another budget-priced photo-editor that would accomplish that for me? (I shoot RAW, if that matters).
Those are the questions that come to mind at this point, but I'm sure that I'll have more as the discussion progresses.
I'd appreciate any comments regarding these questions.
Thanks!
