The tabletop is black velvet. The subject was placed on a cube to raise it above the tabletop. Doing so made it easier to control the placement of the three flashlights underneath the leaves. The lamp in the upper left corner was fitted with a diffusion sock to soften the shadows. That sock also reduced the brightness, which helped prevent the light from that lamp from overpowering the back lighting powered by the flashlights. Twenty focus-bracketed images at Nikon step size 3 were stacked in Helicon Focus at its default settings.

Photo of the Romaine Lettuce Setup

The background is black velvet. The flashlight on the left back lit the main part of the leaf. The other flashlight with the light and diffuser built into its handle front lit the lower part of the leaf. Focus stacking was not used.

I really like the first image Mike. For the second one, I would crop the image from all sides and leave only the core of the round part (probably a square crop) . Then, the image would look like a tree abstract :rolleyes:
