Rat Rock is one of the unique features of China Camp State Park, San Rafael, CA.

China Camp used to be a Chinese fishing village after the California gold rush.

I don't often post B&W images so would appreciate any constructive criticism.

I used Nik Silver EFX Pro to do the conversion. I can't say that I'm fluent in B&W
conversions so I used one of the presets (high structure) and adjusted some of
those settings.

D800, 24-70 lens @ 5.6, 1/125s. I can't remember why I chose f5.6, normally for a shot
like this I would stop down. I may have been hand holding.

If you are at the appropriate distance f5.6 will give you a nice depth of field although I agree with you that a smaller lens opening would have been better.
That depth of field preview button that we do not use that often is of invaluable help to check the DOF in cases such as these.

Thanks for your comment William. I think I could have gotten a little more sharpness by using better
technique, tripod, smaller aperture and DOF preview.
