Ray's Method

  1. I took this shot recently in San Antonio outside the Alamo...it was cloudy, so somewhat of a dreary shot....

Used Ray's tricks (I think) to spice it up just a little...what do you think..??

    Hi Mike

I really like that....I personally think what you have done sort of creates more interest.

You seem to have lightened each arch and for me it leads you down that walkway.

    Really great.

I would probably have gone OTT ......but that is me.

Very best wishes and great processing.

    All the best

    Ray

Hi Mike - had a go myself

Amazingly this is not an OTT picture - it just would not work so I went for the opposite. More subdued to reflect the happenings of the past.

I know you wont mind but if you prefer, I will of course delete immediately.

    Hope you like.

    All the best

    Ray

Ray here is one for you to play with :>)))
Very close to the original. Just a bit of saturation. Sunsetting to the west, I was looking south. Storm clouds above reflecting the sun.

    47032682.

For anyone who would like to play it is ok :>)))))

    Larger version at pbase.

  12. It's interesting comparing Mike and Ray's work on the same image. They show very different styles even when using the same techniques. Mike, you made your image brighter and more colorful, while Ray made his version moody and darker.

It's fun seeing the differences. Good work, guys!

    Hi Gale

Just out of interest do you have the original please so that I can start from scratch and see what I come up with against your work.

By the way I love the shot as is: it is really super and looks great.

    All the best

    Ray

    Fun one to play with

    Here's one I played with.
    • I switched to LAB mode.
    • Used shadow highlights to restore the greenery from the shadows and recover a bit more detail in the clouds.
    • L curve for contrast.
    • Push in ends on A and B to enhance colors.
    • Slight B-curve to add evening sunset glow (warm the image up).
    • Back to RGB
    • Slight paint with light to give colors more pop
    • Significant noise reduction from the sky
    • Local contrast enhancement (USM)
    • Smart sharpen

    Here's mine:
    45062572-L.

    And your original:
    47032682.

    WOW John,
Sure makes the original look quite dullllllll !!!!

Very nice job. Thank you. LAB sure is a nice way to do enhancing. PWL is great, I just never see the potential :<(( until see someone else do it :>)))

I have looked for quite awhile today for the original, think it has been backed off on a cd.

    Keep up the good work.
    Thanks again.

Can't wait to see what Ray has on the cooker :>)))

    Hi Gale

I hope I dont let you down but I have posted the processed shot I did in anither post, FOR GALE.

Just realised that you may not have picked it up.

Most importantly hope you like it.

I did two versions - one which I desaturated and then did some very normal and pretty natural PWL and the other.......well, you know me!

Anyway, image is in the other post - hope you like it.

    Very best wishes

    Ray
