Took this guy with my 300mm f/4 +1.4TC. It was in my flower garden! Would appreciate a name.

Birgit,
It is definately in the Libellulidae (Meadowhawk) family. I'm not exactly which one because some of them look very similar. One of the other members (Fishbio) Larry de March may be able to give you a more definate ID.

P.S. You commented about the names of some of the critters in my other post. I have provided links for you to look at inmy other post.

Hope this helped.

Meadowhawk

Hi BIrgit

The meadowhwks are quite difficult to tell apart, especially when not fully mature, like yours. It will become completely red with black markings when mature. From what I can see of the face, it looks whitish, suggesting White-faced meadowhawk.

Cheers,

Larry

I have one of these in my yard too, and several Autumn meadowhawks. I have been trying to id it as well, I figured either it is a Ruby or white faced meadowhawk.

Well Birgit, I'm new at these jewels but any problems in identification are certainly not due to your captures!

Thank you. Meadowhawks seem to land and stay for a while, which makes it easier to photograph than some other dragons who want to be much on the move. They are quite small and easy to miss however.
