This one I snuck up on in the wild, I have to my longest lens is a 300f4 and it was at home, so my D300 & 70-200vr & 1.4 TC did the job. I am looking to buy longer glass someday.

Very nice shot. Coloring seems a bit dark for a red tail. I have an 80-400 in the for sale section that you might be interested in.

Thank you, I was told it's a Swainson Hawk by another forum member, I have a hard time IDing these guys. Thank you for the offer I am holing out for a 200-400vr :)

I've worked with quite a few red tailed hawks at a rehab place and they have much lighter chests. The lens sold today anyway. The 200-400 is a great lens if you have the budget!

Beautiful shot. You might want to recrop to show the whole tail if possible. Great light and feather detail.

Sambru, great photograph! I wish we had more hawks and eagles here, I rarely see them. I must admit I live in the city though  so I am sure that is not helping matters much :)
