Reflections on Juanita Hoodies-Mergansers of course

  1. Went by for a bit Wednesday after work, very quiet, not many people, an interesting variety of birds.

Here are a couple of Hooded Merganser that very kindly swam back and forth for me a few times prior to heading out into the lake proper.

One thing I saw that puzzled me, was that one of these birds was swimming around in the laggoon, then the second male swam in rather quickly, seemed to "round up" the first male, and then they swam off together. I would have expected that with a male and female, anyone seen this with 2 males before? Darned birds wouldn't fly, in fact nothing of any great interest did on Wednesday, but it was nice to be out in the afternoon sun.

Nice shots Bill! Never been down to Juanita before.

  5. Good job getting close to hoodies Bill. They can be pretty cagey.

  6. Well done Bill. Looks like you were able to get pretty close to these and really take advantage of the good light. It has been so long since the sun has been out I don't think I know how to meter for it any more...
