This past week I got to get out and shoot a bit. I have been shooting at the bubbler when I am not working. Fall migration is about done, and normal fall and incoming winter birds are the normal sight at the water feature.
All shot with D300s, 600VR, and fill flash with SB-900 and Better beamer.
#1 Junco
#2 Yellow-rumped Warbler
#3
#4 Northern Flicker
#5 Blue Jay
After getting a tip from a local friend, I headed out to a pond where some ducks were taking refuge from the opening of Duck Season. I got there before sunrise to sneak down to the water's edge and set up. Mallards and some teal were swimming about, but they all stayed in groups, never offering me a clean shot. I then spotted a lone duck. A quick glance and I i.d. this Redhead drake all out by himself.
There was NO SUN today...low overcast...and very windy. With the cloud cover, the water color was imply awful, dingy grayish blue. I hated the shots I was getting due to that. The drake then swam a ways over in front of me. I could see the color change in the water. There is a large oak tree overhanging this part of the pond and its reflection and shade, with the field of grass around it caused the water to have some good "color" and it was when the drake swam through this area, I let some frames rip.
Shot with D300s, 600VR, 1.4tc, manual exposure with SB-900 and Better Beamer.
#6 Redhead Drake

The next two are when the duck really got out away from me. I put the 1.7tc on, my least used TC and waited for some chances to get more images. The light got much worse.
