Regional Fly Fishing Championships

  1. Last Saturday I had the good fortune to act as a controller in our regional fly fishing championships - each angler has three 2 hour sessions of fishing each on a different "beat" of the river. This little series I am posting is over a 10 minute period where he has seen and cast to a fish, which is non-responsive and so he changes his fly which is where I start the series.

The river is the Wainui-o-mata about 40 minutes drive from Wellington - it holds some large brown trout.

Incidently the fish my angler caught is 59cm long, the second largest of all the anglers. My guy caught only two. The winner caught 21!, the smallest of which was 38cm, the largest 66cm.

Apologies to those who have already seen these on pbase or photopoints.

Incidently, all fish caught are measured and returned and each fly used had to be barbless to minimise damage to the fish

Jerry Snider will like these. He's into fly fishing too.

I've tried but was unsuccessful. :(

    Nice captures,
