I posted up more details on my blog Today:
http://www.teknopunk.com/en/Blog/Entries/2013/4/17_Shanghai_Factory_Five_-_night_ride.html

and more photos can be seen on my flickr:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/teknopunk/

It was a good night for riding the streets of Shanghai in a pack of ~ 80 bikers fast.
I prefer the Leica M to shoot from the bike while riding at speed, as it is the fastest and most simple camera to shoot.

The M Mono gives me the output, I know from shooting pushed high speed B&W film and then some + the UC-Hex performs flawlessly a simply the most beautiful 35mm there is …

Mix in sweat, blood, grease, steel frames, young men and girls all determined to own the night - adrenaline and pure joy!

Damn..!!!. I thought it was going to be the "Motored" powered Bikers, and not the "Pedal" powered Bikers... LOL...

But great shots Dirk, really like that 2nd one though, and it looks like everyone had fun... Well done..!!!.

Marvellous series, Dirk!
I think you perfectly captured the feel of the 'event'.

Haha - big confusion there was about this also in another forum ;-)
Generally, people, who ride bicycles shortly refer to their bicycles as "bike", they also are not called "cyclists" but bikers - sorry for the confusion
And yes, lots of fun to be had - hehe!

Thanks Bart - it was my first time, I went a bit more serious about shooting this kind of thing and I learned a lot about it while doing so.
Next time I will adjust a few things and hopefully get a few better shots than that - I'll also try to pack a second camera for more tight portraits during the moments, when not on the bike (just went shopping crazy, building a nice little Mamiya 645 kit, so that might end up being carted around - haha!)

I find the little Leica though absolutely perfect for this kind of shooting, while riding

Fantastic night shots. Sharp and clear. Excellent series.
Samuel
Thank you Samuel! I could have taken a more modern lens and used a ƒ1.4 lens, but I wanted this set to be a bit "rough", as the nature of this ride is quite so - sweaty, fast, riding in a pack in the night.
I hope to get more of that sense into my future shots of upcoming events.

I like 'em. Plus, it was probably fun shooting them.

Hey Stephen, thanks!
It was a lot of fun! For me, this is not just riding bikes, it is actually the start of a second life! I basically grew up on bikes (bicycles), but due to changing jobs, cities and countries I wasn't in the saddle for about 15 years!
Now it's back on the bike !

Great informal portraits!
Last two give a great feel of the mood, especially the last one.

Thanks Morten - give me a message, when you pass through Shanghai!

Phenomenal set Dirk!
Hey Steve, thanks! My thoughts were with you, when I heard the news on Tuesday here. I really don't know what to express, but I wish your town's people the spirit to stand this through!

Very nice images.

Thank you William!

Haha, thanks Dossy ;-)

Bart, thanks - those kind of portraits are actually, what interests me the most!
I am still very new to the group, riding every week - FNG, as has been mentioned in a movie I saw recently, so everybody is staring at me when I take my shots …

I gotta warm a bit and hope to get much better shots, once people get to know me around …

The best thing of it all is, that I can combine two passions of mine: bicycles and photography!

ok - I hope, this is fine within this thread, but I think, these shots belong here - a few impressions of the old Canadian steel, I ride from a long expired test roll of colour neg film, I rolled through a newly received camera:

These are great, Dirk.
Interesting subdued colours.
Certainly have the "film quality".

Haha - thanks Bart, but I wouldn't use the word "quality" as they are pretty screwed (this film is more than 10 years out of date and it was almost impossible to scan - completely off colours and different sensitivity than box speed).
