Ruby-throated male Hummingbird portrait

    This bird was the first one to show up in my garden on 7 April. I was making a photo out of my kitchen window when he flew up to the window as if to say "I'm back." I immediately put up a feeder which he claimed and is still here.

    Very nice shot. Lots of detail. Those male hummers do lay claim to "HIS" feeder!

  12. How close to the Hummingbird

    I made this photo from my kitchen window which was about 16 feet from the feeder. I used a Canon 600 mm lens on an EOS 1D Mark III. I cropped the image about 50% for the head and shoulders potrait. I have moved the feeder closer now and use extension tubes to shorten the min focus distance. I like to fill the frame with the bird when I can.
