Does anyone Know if the difference between the UltrII and the extreme 2GB is worth the price difference ?

I've asked myself that question.... I like the idea of an "extreme" card because it is probably made to withstand damages better than others.

Then I consider that I never encounter the type of "extremes" the cards are designed to withstand. And, it is so seldom (I have no first hand information of any such failure) that you hear of a Sandisk Ultra failing under any condition.

So, I like the "idea" of an extreme card, but for me I don't see the benefit outweighing the cost, so I'll stick with the Ultra.

If yuo own a D2hs or D2x then there is a huge speed increase in both reading and writting.

My understanding is the the Extreme is essentially the same guts as the Ultra II, but the Extreme is built to military specifications as far as ruggedness, and operating temperature. For the type of use that we typically would put them to, I don't think the Extreme is worth the extra cost.

Is the Extreme faster than the Ultra?
  6. Extreme is faster than Ultra, according to Rob Galbraith. See here :

But in D2X, the faster write speed won't increase the number of
consecutive frames that we can take in continuous mode, as the
number is limited by the size of the buffer. The shutter will stop
firing once the buffer is full, and won't fire again even after all
the files have been written to the card. We have to release the
shutter-release button and press again for it to fire again. That's
how my D2X behaves (maybe I have messed up with the settings).

I just sent back my 2nd Extreme III 2GB to Sandisk for write errors. When I was shooting pictures they would just error out and the camera would give me an error that the card is unusable. I could reformat on my computer but not in the camera.

Has anyone else had this issue or if you are using them with success please let me know.

I can assure you that the Extreme III cards are the fastest you`ll have used! I use a 2GB no problem with my D2hs.
  10. Hi, Ron. I am using Extreme 2GB with D2X and no problem so far.
