Will a SC17 cable work in iTTL mode on my SB800, or do I need to get the SC28 or SC29?

Yes, it most certainly will - mine does
  3. Gee I hope so, I just bought a new/used one off of Ebay.
It is my understanding that the SC-28 is an upgrade
of the SC-17. The only difference as I understand it
is the lock on the end of the cable. And the only diff-
erence between the SC-28 and the SC-29 is the optional
AF assist light. and of course the extra cash. But all
three should work fine with your SB

I have one that I am not using. If you are interested I will figure out a fair price and you can get this one.

Older SC-17 don't have the lock pin, newer ones do.

The big difference is that SC-17 has the cord exit on the front of the hotshoe, SC-89 has it on the side, which is more convenient with most cameras.
