I bought the tamron several months back and I definitely enjoy and appreciate the lens. The beast is what i truly want but that wont happen any time soon. Now I have been reading about the Nikon 35-70 f/2.8 and am wondering if the IQ/sharpness is significantly better than the Tamron. The limited focal lenth range would be fine for me, i believe.

I am now considering selling my Tamron and getting the Nikon.

What do you guys think? Worth the swap? Just keep the Tamron?

If you have a good copy of the Tamron, from what I've seen it's as capable as the Nikon is, very sharp, great contrast and IQ.

Perhaps buy the Nikon, compare it with the Tamron and then keep the one you prefer?
  3. That's what I did. I sold the Nikon. It wasn't as sharp wide open, and I prefer the zoom action on the Tamron.

    28-75 vs. 35-70

I liked my old Tamron, I found it to be very sharp. Sold it when I got my 17-55. Until recently, I carried a 28-105 for a lighter general purpose lens but replaced it with the 35-70. Not exactly light, but excellent none the less. When I don't need the 17-55, the 35-70 is on.

Weiran's idea is good. A side by side would tell you.

I haven't used the tamron but I did use the 35-70 for a week and thought it was a bit soft on the wide end. Other than that it was very good. I used my 50 1.8 and the 85 1.8 @ 2.8 to compare shots. build quality of course is excellent...
