I thought it would be fun to post some of our favorite BIF bird in flight shots. They are doing this over at Steve Perry’s forum, and it is a nice thread.

A few of mine, many with very old “archaic“ gear compared to today’s standards, lol.

Nikon D70, yes D70 200-400 f4 VR version 1 with 1.7 tc on a tripod way back in 2005, 1/400 at f6.7 @ 680mm gave just the right amount of wing blur landing at the nest.

Nikon D300 with 1.7 tc, 200-400VR, tripod, I call this “in flight sushi“. Big crop, near 70%. Yes, I own an abnormally great 200-400 VR1 compared to most, one reason why I did not buy my 500VR G until 2008, and I still use my old 200-400vr 1 from 2005 as my compact grab and go.

snowy owl, D3s, 500 VR f4 with 1.4 tc, hand held, panned shot, I do not recall shutter speed, but know it was low, high iso, near sunset, very dark, wild bird, not baited. 8 hours looking, locating and waiting after a 5 hour journey throughout Missouri.
