UGH! I remember them well! But the Black Flies were even worse!

I sported large bites all over my neck.....

Great shot, though!

Thanks for the comments, everyone.

You have a strange variety of mosquito. Our local version does not have a tail much less the twin tales, many of the insects in your photo have.
Ahhhh, a non-believer. Come on up and learn what real mosquitoes are. I think what appears to be a twin tail is the effect of the backlighting.

They may have nearly ruined the pleasure, but they totally made the shot!
I nearly culled these shots but thought the mosquitoes were an interesting story for the uninitiated. Seems as usual I'm a poor judge of what others find interesting in my images :frown: What really made it wasn't only the bugs but the early morning light shining through their little bodies.

I agree the flies are worse but way less numerous. One variety of fly is called "white socks" (due to having white feet) and I have a really bad reaction to them. Shortly after being bit I will swell up REALLY BAD then will develop a sore that lasts for about a month. Way worse than red bugs/chiggars back home.

Crowded airspace indeed, you'll never have to worry about dust bunnies....
Good point about the dust bunnies:smile:

One of the great paradoxes in life is spring in Alaska. You can be bitten by mosquitoes while slogging through snow. Bizarre but true

I guess I'm saying you need to worry about both if you make the trip :frown:

as much as I'd love to shoot eagles and bears up there it may not happen
but if it should I'll be asking you (again) for tips.....thx
