I see halos around the beak, as suggested by Glenn. That only means oversharpening.
I have no experience with the D300s but I use a D300. I keep my sharpening in camera low, shoot RAW files and edit with ViewNX2 and then Photoshop if necessary.
I usually sharpen to about 4 with ViewNX2 and look at my sharpening at 50% crop. I do not see halos doing this.
Now, if you are shooting JPEG, well that is a different story.

I always knew my sharpening techniques were a tad too much.
Time to adjust them some.
