Hello,

Can someone tell me why the shutter speed in my D600 will not go faster than 200 when I use the flash ??

Is there some reason for this??

regards

Are you talking about an internal or external flash? If you use a newer type flash like the SB-700 or 900/910 (I'm not sure about the 400/600/800) you can set camera to use FP mode (Focal Plane sync) in the flash menu. This will allow much faster speeds.

Thank you.;

I did see that option in the menu.

I am using a SB-700

Question, If i set the camera to Auto 1/250FP will this have any affect on the in camera flash??

I can't check for you right now but as far as I know it's only possible with external flashes. Due to the lack of power of the pop-up.

If it's ony FP 1/250th you should be able to scroll past that with the SB-700 attached (if you see a [FP] in the screen somewhere).

That is pretty much how all SLR or DSLR cameras are with flash, just how it is. Most are 1/200 second, a few are 1/250, some are less.

It absolutely can affect the flash. First, this setting will simply allow 1/250 second with no other change.
Second, it will also allow even faster shutter speeds with flash, but if faster, the flash becomes continuous light (no longer a speedlight) and the range is seriously limited. Becomes a greatly different thing (if faster shutter). Internal flash cannot do this mode, but the SB-700 can.
