Yup DX lens.
FYI, here is my expererience with it:
  • STIFF zoom ring.
    • I have to grab the zoom ring with my hand and use my hand/arm to turn it. I cannot turn it with just my fingers.
    • This makes it hard to easily and quickly set the zoom ring.
    • I think this is due in part to the short 60 degree throw of the zoom ring, where it has less leverage to push out the extending optics.
  • Short 60 degree zoom throw
    • The short STIFF throw makes it difficult set the zoom precisely. I usually under or overshoot the desired zoom setting.
    • So I zoom wide then crop in post.
  • Zoom ring turns in the OPPOSITE direction than Nikon zooms.
    • If you zoom with muscle memory, this can be BAD.
    • Shooting volleyball, I kept turning the zoom ring the wrong way, and losing shots.
      • Zooming to tele, rather than wide.
    • For me, this was the most frustrating experience of using the lens. After 15-20 minutes of this, I just gave up, put the lens away and switched to my primes.
For a DX lens, I would recommend the Tamron 17-50/2.8 NON-VR.
Though older, it is a much more user friendly lens than the Sigma.
