Apparently, the Nikon mount will not ship until mid July.

I envision this lens as an available light portrait lens replacement for the 50 f/1.4, as such, edge sharpness is not really desirable except when stopped down for the occasional landscape. Except for the mentioned CA edge preformance, this lens still looks really promising. Amazon appears to have raised their preorder price back up to $450.

Thanks Chad! I'm glad someone is reading the dpr Canon forums for us.. :)

Mid-July is only a month away. I'll be curious how it does contrast and bokeh, two things the two Nikon lenses that flank it are known for.

Well, I figured that they would be the first to post samples as many of the frequent posters are predisposed to measurebating.
If I get mine first, I'll be sure and post some examples. Funny you should mention bokeh. The 50 f/1.4's lack of smooth out of focus rendering was the primary reason why I am looking for an alternative (that and the noisy screw drive). The 28 better be sublime for $1600, and the 35 is slow at f/2 (might as well use a zoom and boost the iso). Wait, that is three lenses. Which one were you not referring to in your post?

I use the 35 f/2 as my 'normal' lens. The bokeh is ok (it's got a seven blade diaphram) but the contrast and sharpness are excellent (and I love it's diminutive size.) It's a full stop faster than any zoom, yet the new Sigma is a stop faster than that.

Of course the proof will be in the pictures, eh?
