Sigma non-DG TC's?

Discussion in 'Lens Lust' started by icecavern, Jul 8, 2007.

  1. I've been thinking of getting a 1.4 and 2.0 tc to go with my Sigma 300mm. I've found a place selling brand new 2.0 TC's at £80 because they're the non-DG version. Anyone know if the DG is really that much better?

Not sure if there is much different tbh..I believe "DG" just refers to a coating they add much like they do to the lenses..I have a 100-300mm ex dg lens and use a 1.4x ex apo "non dg" converter which works great.
  3. Tempted to get one. Shame they don't have the 1.4 but I think having a 2.0x in the bag would be useful.

The DG will have a different coating on the rear lens element to reduce reflections that DX sensors are more prone to due to their high reflectiveness. But most newer glass is coated well enough anyway so I don't think it makes much of a difference at all. Go for the non-DG, I have a non-DG 1.4x with my non-DG Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 and I have no problems with it.
