But I really wish I could have gotten closer. this guy was on the other side of the lake. Had to resort to cropping.....

Very impressive Geno, especially considering the distance and resulting crop. Looks like those extra MPixels paid off on this one.

Here is a little male downy wood-peck I got published in a North Jersey Magazine. The article was about the President of the New Jersey chapter of the Audubon Society and a new modern lookout they are building. I really should scan the article for you guys. It's in Bedminster NJ and it will have a three story lookout with very close parking aimed at seniors and the handicapped. Even has an elevator!

Now the local news paper is interested in having me do a weekly photo relating to birding.....It's a very small amount of money but can lead to bigger things.

Sheesh - the shots you guys with the 300/2.8s are posting. This has to be one of the best lenses around - and of course the photographer is no slouch either - great stuff.

Geno,

Did you go to Bedminster recently ?

Nice shot !
Yes to shoot the director of the Park.

I scanned in the article...

Full size is located here if you want to download it 8.5x11@300dpi

Here is a smaller version to get the idea. I shot the bird and the building, which looks a lot better in the real print. My friend Kathy King shot the director. My shot of the director was from on top of the building and didn't fit the end story as well....Kathy did some hiking with him in the woods and I guess it paid off.

Thanks Rory,

The only thing I have more fun with right now is the 200 2VR, but it doesn't have the length and does not look as good with the TCs. The 300 2.8 outshines the 200 2 with the 1.4; so you guys thinking the 200 and TC is a good alternative....Think again...

PS I am sorry these samples aren't animals....but it's what I got....although the last one might be considered animals. (LOL)
The Baseball is at night! And the Bicycle and Baseball were shot JPEG.

Nice GBH shot, Geno. The ability to crop like that is one reason I was considering buying a D2X. However, I found such a good deal on a used D2H, I guess I'll have to wait a few years for the price of the 2X to come down.

Nice to see the published image of the downy woodpecker. That's quite the bird viewing platform!! A weekly newspaper feature will be great exposure. Congrats!!

Dennis,

Thanks!

As you can see I still love my D2H. It still gets used quite a bit. In fact I think if you don't need to blow up the shots so much, The D2H still has better saturation and sharpness.

The above Bicycle and baseball stuff is hardly even touched on the sharpening.
