Took some family shots for my friend today...

The skin tones were a bit on the red side... And a bit washed out...

What should I have done? Any thoughts?

Here is a sample that I hope shows a bit of what I'm talking about...

They're pretty close. Your white balance is just a little warm. You also underexposed a touch. Did you shoot RAW? A minute and a half in Photoshop and it'll be perfect.
  3. It's a simple white balance problem.

If you had shot in RAW, it would be simple to adjust in post processing.
If you shot in jpeg, a custom white balance would have worked.
But this is a simple image to correct in Photoshop. Just do an auto color - (shift + ctrl + B).
