    Really he's called Gizmo.

    He really has some attitude!

I tried a smudge painting of him.

Would like to know it it works.

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

    Many thanks

    Ray

    Ray,

I'm not that familiar with this technique, but I'll give you my impressions. I like the basic concept, but it appears that in this one the smudging is heavy in some areas and much lighter in others. It would seem to me that to work, the smudging should be applied fairly consistently across the subject. Maybe a larger brush with a lower intensity setting would work a little better. I'm not much of an artist though, so my take may be totally in the weeds.

Looks like a real cute kitty BTW.

    Thanks

    Hi frank

I think you nailed what has been bugging me but I could not decide.

That is what is wrong - it is not consistent.

Back to the drawing boards for another go!

    Many thanks

    Ray

BTW he is a great cat - quite old now. Never had one like him before (and I have had cats) but this guy is unbelievable.

  4. Ray,
I think that does an injustice in this case. Can we see Gizmo in an unaltered form? looks like a cool cat.

    Cool Cat

    Hi dave

    Thanks for the interest

Yes Gizmo is a cool cat - the best I have ever had.

    He is awesome.

He has personality and attitude. I swear he really understands - incredibly intelligent.

Can honsestly say he is family!!!

    Here he is untouched.

I will also post a further message showing what I wanted and what someone has done for me.

    All the best

    Dave

    Joy did this in dpreview.

This is what I wanted to do.

I think what she has done is stunning - but of course it is a matter of taste.

I love the smudge work though. Just wish I could have done it.

Awwww what a pretty kitty. A great friend I am sure.
I also looked at your smudge (tough to do, I can't) and think Frank nailed it.

This new smudge if very good.

    Who did this one.

    Thanks for sharing.

Guess I will have to scoot over to retouching. :>)))

Oh, yes. That one does look very good. As I said in my previous reply, I am not much of an artist, but that doesn't mean that I don't appreciate good art when I see it.

On the subject of Gizmo, my wife Janie and I are serious cat lovers. We have two now, but lost three a few years ago before we got these. They were 19, 20 and 21 when they died. One of those, and both of the ones we have now are very, very smart (the other two were dumb as bricks ), so I can relate to what you are saying about how smart Gizmo is. Looks like a real sweetie too.

  9. awesome, both the untouche and the new smudge.

  10. Never tried that, pretty cool. You cat has some wild looking eyes.

Many thanks to all who posted folowing the new shots.

I must say that the smudge by Joy in dpreview retouch imo is superb - just love it.

She really has nailed the shot.

So just to say again - thank you everyone for looking - appreciated.

    All the best

    Ray
