Received my new lens several days ago, I was so busy recently, and didn't test it until yesterday. I took some pictures yesterday using 20D+300/2.8IS+monopod. I felt this combo was very light after using 500mm for a long time. Because it's a testing, I used f2.8 all time.

Amazingly good DN, especially for images taken at f2.8. In my experience with the 300 2.8 AF-S, I found that the lens gets even better above f4. Your shots here prove though, that used properly, the 300 IS can produce excellent images even wide open.

    Thanks a million, all.

Wade, Thanks. Thanks for providing information about 200-400VR, too. Finally, I got 300/2.8IS. Major reason is to get a 600/4IS in a year. Nikon 600/4 is tooooo expensive, so I have to jump the boat of Canon.

Frank, Thanks. I also find the working mechanism of IS is defferent with VR, but both are good.

That last shot of the original 4 is classic. Hey, his head is just as wide as his neck; what a pinhead! How cute.

Really nice set of images! And as you found out that lens is razor sharp at any setting.
