Besides the 'lower pricing' already mentioned I pretty much have all I 'need' at the moment . But I wouldn't mind an entry level high iso performer . Whether it's a full frame 'D10' or another 6 meg dx camera with D700 iso performance .
Bring back the electronically switched sensor with 1/500th flash synch speed !
perhaps with another electronically switched sensor they could install a high speed frame rate like the Casio EX-F1 - mirror lock-up and fire the sensor electronically at 30 fps !

VR and DC not necessary.
Just make it sharp wide open and give it very fast AF.
In other words, make it like Canon's 135 2.

For my intended purpose, the 200vr was too large physically and long focally, the 135DC's AF was a little too slow, and the f/2.8 70/80-200 zooms are just a little too slow aperturewise.

@ Bob,

The D3000 is £429 here, that's body only, £500 with the kit lens. The D40 was only £250 including the 18-55 kit lens.

I was about to buy one last month for my Daughter and it was only then I found out it was no longer available.

I've no doubt the D3000 is a better camera but for someone like my Daughter who may not even get heavily into photography I wouldn't what to spend £500 just to start her off.

I hope to see a D1000/D2000 which will just be a slight update of the D40 for total DSLR beginners.

I would love to get the new 70-200, only because I feel it may be better on FX and nano coating, and of course 4 stop VR. But i cant see selling mine for the newer, especially for the $$$ they want.

I would like to see a series of F/4 zooms ie: 24-105 w/VR and nano coating, maybe some faster primes or updated primes like the 85/1.4, 135/2, or a 35/1.4.
