All the games are from the Premier Division of the England National League and feature players that will play in the 2012 London Olympics

Look good. damn those corners are dangerous times.

Those last 4 could do with some extra contrast? On my work monitor anyway.

I've been meaning to try some hockey shots for a couple of years, maybe this year...

agree, could do w/ some contrast boost.

This many pix, pls # them.

What were your settings? EXIF isn't there, some look like the shutter speed was too slow.

#2 and the other w/ just backs, no faces, and no ball don't do anything for me. The one 3 up from the bottom is OOF (looks like the fence caught focus). Last one's stronger since you got the player facing you.

My fave is the guy in blue w/ the ball at the end of his stick. Interesting that you use a dimpled ball.

Chris all bar the top shot were taken with 200-400 f4 vr, the first shot was 200 f2 all are shot at f4. Have edited so that the pictures are now numbered. As for the dimpled ball the matches are played under FIH international rules and so thats what is required when you play on water based astroturf.

Russ as someone who played for England over twenty years ago the Penalty Corners look safer today than when I played, everyone has more protection today.

Yeah, I was always a back stuck in the corner of the goal, no protection either! Them were the days.

Great! The water spray helps to add action to the shots too.

Like no.3 esp.

Just looking at your lens list - any you don't own?!

Nice shots love the image of the boy with the ball on the end of his stick in the first set.
Strange for me to see men playing field hockey, my daughter played for three years in H.S. tough sport to watch.

Mike I played Internationally for six years at a time when Hockey moved from a game played on grass to on played on astroturf. The player almost with the ball on the end of his stick is Simon Mantell who is one of Great Britain's leading forwards the player behind him also plays internationally.

The Men's game is very different to the women's it's great to watch at the top level where you see players throwing themselves at a ball travelling at over 80 MPH. Todays game is very fast thanks to the new rules. Only issue I have as a photographer is that it's a game played by players bending over and so shadows are a killer. That said at the moment one side I'd like to photograph is the current women's world champions who are Argentina who play the game very quickly.
