Rejected because of the bad bokeh and because it's too fattening:

A UF pitcher (I think Billy Bullock) threw this practice pitch during their win against LSU on march 28.

TIBM is a baseball image...

Far from brilliant, but taken with a Canon Ixus at the one and only baseball game I've been to, when I visited a friend in Chicago in 2002. I can't remember who they were playing or who won, but it was a thoroughly enjoyable day.

I'm trying to figure out that image. My initial guess is that the pitch was a warm-up pitch because the person standing near second base is not wearing a hat and is not facing the catcher. I don't understand why it looks like the person's uniform in the rear is not the same uniform the pitcher is wearing.

I did say in the OP that it was a practice pitch between innings
Different lighting conditions. Late afternoon, so the pitching mound and all that stuff was already in the shadows, while 2nd base and the outfield were in the sun, so to get proper exposure he got blown out.

You did indeed mention the practice pitch. I also see that the person at second base is not hatless as I had thought.

Most important, I forgot to mention that the limited focus on the baseball makes an absolutely marvelous image!

EDIT: Oh my gosh! Could it be that the issue involving the phantom next page in this thread is now corrected?

SECOND EDIT: Nope, the notorious phantom next page is back again.

Trap focus? Use the AF-S mode (not AF-C), in focus-priority mode (not release priority), pre-focus on the desired area manually, and keep the shutter down: the shot will fire only when something is in focus.

It's a great image!

Philippe,

I have never heard of trap focus. Wow, I'm running around the house trying it now. I really like it. It certainly will have some applications in my future, Thank you very much. You are the MAN!
