Southern Utah w/ Leica CL

I was going to take both the D7100 and CL so that I would be prepared for wildlife and landscape. In the end, I decided to go for just the landscape. It was a good call because the wildlife was very scarce. Here are some shots from the trip. If you have not been to the area, you really must visit it.

Thanks Louis. I liked the light weight and overall performance. I am still adjusting to the EVF. I think in low light situations, the optical view finders will be superior for a while. Plus I have found that it is easier to tell the differences with the settings / orientation of a circular polarizing filter with the optical viewfinder than with the electronic. I ended up taking several shots of the same subject with different settings to get the photo I wanted.

Thanks Pa, We will be going back again. Several of the places we wanted to go to we couldn't because of either weather or time. I have been to or driven by Monument Valley twice now. The first time it snowed. The second time, as you can see it was very cloudy. The cloud cover extended to Valley of the Gods. We just got out of there when the rains started. I figure the 3rd time will be the charm for clear skies.

Thank Allan, I have to give my wife credit for #2. I was concentrating so hard on the western side of the amphitheater that I almost missed that shot. She was the one who pointed it out to me. I was lucky that she decided not to sleep in and get up for the sunrise.

Thank you for the kind comments. I think a large part of the final product can be attributed to changing to a better processing software.

These are beautiful. I have yet to visit Utah but it is certainly on my photography bucket list.

Which software do you use now?

I am using Lightroom. I had been using one of the Nikon packages but when I got a 3 month trial subscription with the Leica, I started using it. I am considering using Luminar once the subscription runs out just because I do not like renting software. As far as the how I processed the photos, I used auto color and then either adjusted the dehazing or the clarity slider. I tried to keep the adjustments to a minimum.

Thanks Walter. The southern half of Utah and northern portion of Arizona have some phenomenal scenery. Here is another shot of Double Arches to give you a sense of the size. If you look at the bottom edge of the photo, you will see an adult. It is almost a "Where's Waldo" photo.

Thanks Bobby, We were not able to go to Canyon Lands or Dead Horse because of weather. The day we arrived in Moab, it was rainy enough where my wife did not feel comfortable driving to Island in the Sky. The following day, the weather cleared and we went to Arches. The day after, it rained hard enough where I did not feel comfortable driving the road into Canyon Lands. So we just headed up to Salt Lake for our flight the next morning. That means we will have to go back at some point. I hate it when that happens.
