The Special Challenge #71 - Best of 2009

Submission-Thread

This time the challenge isn't to shoot, but to pick your best shots of the year 2009!

Every participant is allowed to enter up to 3 pictures.

The timeframe is the whole year of 2009.

Anonymity isn't really manageable this time (most pictures
have probably been posted already).

Submission starts: Tuesday 1. December 0.00 GMT
Submission ends: Friday 25. December 23.59 GMT

(Voting time will be from 25. December 0.00 GMT to 30. December 23.59 GMT)

We will present the Winners in time for the new year

NIKON CAFE SPECIAL-RULES

1. Every participant is allowed up to three picture in this special challenge.

2. The picture has to be taken in the year 2009.

3. The posted picture must remain unaltered, once posted.
But the text of the participation may be edited/changed, as often as
necessary (for possible exceptions contact the Challenge Leader)!

4. Pictures may be processed/edited and worked on, in post production
before submitting them, but the main picture/content must have been
taken in 2009.

5. Somewhat controversial pictures are permitted, but please use your
judgment and keep it within reason. ( Note that this community should
remain suitable for all age groups )

6. If there are any questions or obscurities the Challenge Leader is the
person to appeal and to decide.

7. Please feel free to give your picture a title, and even explain it a little!

8. You must host the photos somewhere on the web.
The photos will then be posted by you in the submission thread.

9. To make voting easier: All your pictures have to be "entered" in one post,
please label your entries with A, B and C.

The Challenge leader and the NikonCafe-Moderators will be happy to assist if there are any questions.

Here are my 'best' 3 for 2009...since the year hasn't ended, I will reserve the right to say that my best 3 shots haven't happened yet. ;)

A - This panorama was taken at Floyd Bennet Field. They are doing vintage Airforce Plane and Helicopter restoration projects. The final picture is over 10,000 pixels wide. I've downsized to 1500 pixels for this post...click to see the 1500 pixels.

B- Taken on the Island of St. Maarten, in the Caribbean. Used the Sigma 10-20 HSM wide opened. The sun was very strong...this lens shows remarkable contrast. Speaking of contrast, it's 40 degrees outside...I'd sure like to be in St. Martin now!

C- This was taken in the Lincoln Tunnel going from Manhattan to New Jersey. I hear that it is illegal to shoot pictures within the tunnel...good thing that I didn't know that while I took this shot. I opened my moonroof and shot this 1 second exposure.

Good ones

Again, the year is not yet over, but here goes.

(A) A simple B&W to start with, but I like it:

(B) This one's grown on me since I took it at the Great North Run: something about the combination of the sweet fairy wing costume and the expression:

(C) The last one is Phil Plait, aka the Bad Astronomer and President of the James Randi Educational Foundation at The Amaz!ng Meeting London. He's a little frustrated that the tech wasn't quite so amazing as hoped, especially when he's using a Mac:

And I've included this photo to represent my favorite form of photography:
Whether I'm shooting fashion or re-creating vintage movie star portraits, I love working in a studio with models.

Great Challenge idea.
A. This is a double exposure image from a street mall in China. I was stuck by the couple walking arm in arm and the ad of the couple in the distance. I used the double exposure to compress space and give it the dreamy quality that seemed right for the scene.

b. This is from "Christ the Redeemer" in Rio. The place seemed to me a powerful statement of religious beliefs, but you be the judge.

c. This is an abandonded car dealer near me. To me it spoke volumes about the real vs, the ideal, the state of the economy and on and on.
