Well here goes, it was really hard picking 3 to call my best.

I take so many micro shots of bugs and things, I wanted to look for something different,
maybe surprise y'all, and show that I do take other kinds of pics.

A
Unknown Flower. Well this was my best micro effort.
The result of a fruitless search for dragons along the Georgia coast.

B
Saint Cyprian's Episcopal African Church, built in 1876 Darien Georgia.
Some days out shooting are just great. This and the image above were taken within
minutes of each other.

C
Easter cousins. Very unusual pic, I do not take pictures of people. To go to a park
on Easter and get this image was very much a challenge for me, and very out of character.
Not technically a great shot, but it is one of my favorites of the year.

Wonderful idea for a challenge; there are some truly special captures posted in this thread!

Anyway, infrared opened up a whole new avenue for me in 2009 so here are some of my favorites...

A. Great Falls Park, Virginia

B. Amtrak train in Fredericksburg, Virginia during the Scott Kelby photowalk
View attachment 492163

C. Cape Charles, Virginia during NikonCafe's Eastern Shore fall migration shoot
View attachment 492164

All taken with the Nikon D200 (IR converted) and 18-200VR lens

Thank you,

A. One of the top Eagle shots of the season, unfortunately my best was Dec 28 2008! this one was in January 2009, a chilly chilly day only -5 F for the duration of the shoot with winds bringing the wind chill down.

B. Drove nearly 4 hours to see one of the few snowy owls in the entire state of Missouri, was a gamble that paid off, located the owl, and was rewarded after a long wait and the sun setting with a fly by. A higher ISO shot with the D300 and was getting mighty dark. Proper panning and a significant crop still yields a super 12x12 print. non baited bird, natural fly by, non hunting shot.

C. Winter Sky in the foothills of the Missouri Ozarks, 3:45 AM after the moon set, nice crisp 20 degree morning outside, spent about 1.5 hours photographing the night sky, non tracking shot,

This was a bit of an off year for me - I didn't take nearly as many photos as I have in years past:

Orly. Or considering how naughty he is 100% of the time, maybe we should have named him Marley?

OK, I think these are my best 3

A - South Beach Miami Sunrise - I've wanted to get up early to catch a sunrise on a vacation, but I'm not a morning person. This was the first time I actually did it, and I'm glad I did.

B - Working Together - Taken in downtown Atlanta. This is part of a beautiful sculpture that forms the shape of a figure holding a sphere, with a flag pole set right behind. I really like this close up shot, where you can see what gives the sphere it's shape.

C - Holocaust Memorial - This is a shot of the Holocaust Memorial in Miami, FL. I felt it was a very powerful memorial.

I have not posted in this section before, but I'll give it a try.

All of these are from our trip to Tanzania and the Islands of the Indian Ocean.

Here are my three.

A Rainy Day Wedding
From a wedding I did in September. The bride was having so much fun she could have cared less that it was raining.

B Col. W. Horn (Ret)
My father-in-law asked me to do a portrait of him in his dress uniform. As you can see he is a decorated veteran of the Viet Nam War. I was honored.
