Ooo. This should be fun. Hard to pick though.

I visited several Arctic communities in July. In Igloolik, early in the morning, kids were out ice-jumping. Carefully plotting a course from one piece of ice to another, they made their way out to sea and back again. Brave. Crazy. Spectacular.

This was also taken in Igloolik, just outside of the community. The combination of the boats and the cloud formation caught my eye.

First Challenge Entry
Below are my entries in this year end challenge. This also happens to be my first challenge entry

This was taken as I was walking through one of my favorite parks and just happened to look up. Good thing I had my camera with me!!!

This photo was taken was I was exploring a park near my in-law's in Virginia.
C -
The above subjects are my wife and son. This picture was taken in Canada. I had a hard time deciding between this shot which is posed and the one before it where I caught them unaware.

A. Large Marble (Euchloe ausonides) on Tower mustard (Arabis glabra), one of it's larval food plants.
I had wanted to see this beautiful butterfly which I had only found in books. A friend photographed one this spring and that got me out hunting. It was a good year for them and I eventually got quite a number of shots and while this may not be the sharpest or closest, I like the composition.
B. Casavant Frères Organ, Knox United Church, Winnipeg.
I was wandering around downtown looking for subjects and found the church open. An organist was practicing for the next day's service so I got both an audio and visual
treat. I'm a real sucker for symmetry! (note: I removed a large speaker hanging from the ceiling)
C. Abandoned Dam
This is part of the old Pinawa dam and power station which used to be fed by a diversion of the Winnipeg River. It has long since been replaced by dams on the river proper.

A. A portrait of a young girl at a street in Los Angeles.
B. I was positioned to take a photo of another passerby when this little girl peeked on my lens and appeared on the viewfinder.
C. Santa Barbara, CA - I spotted this young man trying very hard to help his mother (not in photo) sell on the street. I captured the moment because he reminded me of my childhood life.

Best People images for 2009
With 60k files to choose from this year I decided to select the three images of people that represent my style and the subjects.
A - Raelene with her daughters Amelia and Jade. Shot on a country road after we had been out for dinner together before they moved to another town. Just after sunset, the light was just right!! January.
B - This young lady was out of bed early to have breakfast with us after hot air ballooning.
C - 10.19 pm saw this young lady being held up to the first floor (2nd in the US) window by her mother to see a large building being lifted by crane over another just outside! This is certainly one of my all time best shots.
I have many other great shots from this year that I am proud of and would like to thank everyone here for sharing their work and comments on the Café. This has allowed me to expand and improve my capabilities.

I hope these are deserving to be listed in here with the other submissions! The photos I've seen so far are simply amazing.
So, here we go. Three from me:
A. This is a "Sportrait" of a young swimmer right before he was going to swim one of his events. I was just looking to capture a nice shot of him getting mentally prepared, and ended up being very lucky by getting the object of his preparation (his swimming lane) reflected in his goggles.
B. From the Lancaster County Airshow this August. I was very pleased to see one of my very favorite aircraft and get a nice, closeup shot of it. The P-51 Mustang made a high speed, low altitude pass for us.
C. From my town of Lititz, Pa, home of the longest continuously held Independence Day fireworks display in the U.S. This is one of my favorite fireworks shots of the show. It looks like an arrangement of a plant or flowers of some kind. I really like it. Hope you do, too! :smile:
