I caught this guy on the side of my neighbors house last week...can anyone ID it for me? He was pretty big...

Definitely. The argiopes are some of the most beautiful spiders around - and I have mild arachnaphobia. Gimme a snake any day!

These particular argiopes are also known as garden spiders and writing spiders because they weave a pattern in their webs that looks a little like cursive. Pretty common, and they can get intimidatingly large.
