Sprouting Garlic

Sep 13, 2007
Northern VA suburb of Washington, DC
I've had this garlic head for about a month while I waited to see how photogenic it might become. I'll continue keeping it with the hope that it creates more photo opportunities but wanted to make a photo now while each clove is still in great shape. I always have at least one garlic head in the house and I've never seen one produce so many sprouts.

The setup is so simple that no photo of it is needed. The tabletop and background are a single sheet of semi-glossy, grey presentation board. (Though I chose that material because it creates such a nice, soft reflection, I ultimately decided upon a lighting scheme that hardly creates a reflection.) A medium continuous-light lamp fitted with a diffusion sock was immediately above the subject. Twenty focus-bracketed images at Nikon step size 3 were stacked in Helicon Focus at its default settings.
